The Scholarship Fund is to be used, kept, maintained and disposed of as scholarships for students of education pursuing a teaching career.  This fund is to be used solely for scholarships to students at the University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana.  Guidelines for scholarship applicants have been prepared by the Evansville Retired Teachers Association.  The actual selection of recipients is made by the Directors of Financial Aid at the two above named universities.

An Agreement of Trust was made in April, 1997, between ERTA and Jane Heneisen, Director of the Fund, Philip Reisinger.  Treasurer of the Fund, and the then current President of of ERTA, Marion Reisinger (referred to as Trustees), all of Evansville, Indiana.  The three trustees have powers enumerated in this legal document to administer the trust in accordance with the provisions of Article 4 of Title 30 Code, as amended from time to time.  The trust shall be known as the Evansville Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund, hereafter referred to as the Scholarship Fund.

Any vacancy in the trustees caused by resignation, refusal to serve, or inability to act, shall be filled by a vote of a majority of the current ERTA Board of Directors.

Note:  A couple of changes have been made since the trust document was notarized.  Philip Reisinger resigned as treasurer, and his wife Marion Reisinger was elected by the ERTA Executive Board to replace him.  On August 7,2008, Jane Heneisen resigned her position and Earl Pfettscher was elected by the ERTA Executive Board to suceed her as Director the of Scholarship Fund.  The current president of the ERTA has automatically become a trustee.  Sylvia Blice will serve in this capacity during her term of office.  This third trustee position will change with all subsequent ERTA presidents.

Since the Scholarship Fund was established in 1980.   The balance in the Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union account is $96,672.92  The fund continues to grow through gifts, memorials, community service and interest.

The Scholarship fund was transfered to a trust fund administered by the University of Evansville, and University of Southern Indiana as voted by the Board on May 6, 2010.

        E. Allen Hensley Professional Development

Scholarship For Teachers

Co-chairman:  Mike Madriaga and Diane Meier

Mr. Hensley was a long time Central Speech Teacher.  He also coached the debate team.  He began teaching at Central in 1935 and retired from Central in 1973.  He continued to give to education after his death.  He left money to the Evansville Retired Teachers' Association for scholarships. The scholarship committee decided to award some of the money to our current scholarship fund for students studying to become teachers and to award the remaining endowment resources to establish Professional Development Scholarships for teachers.

$5,000 will be awarded this year.  The amount of the awards will range from $1,000 to $5,000 per scholarship.  The Board of Directors of the Evansville Retired Teachers Association will decide the winners.

The scholarships will be given for study or travel which enhances professional development for teachers.  The committee wished to place a few restrictions on teacher ideas; however, it will choose those proposals which offer maximum opportunities for teachers to continue their professional education.  The EVSC Officials have informed us that the planned study or travel must occur outside the school day and year, unless prior EVSC Administration and Board approval is obtained.

All educators who are currently employed by the EVSC and have at least three years of continuous employment in the EVSC are eligible.

Applications must be postmarked by January 16, 2014.  They should be mailed to:
